Housing Secretary Gives Nod for Online Building Permission System in all Cities by March 2022

Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary, Durga Shanker Mishra, has given permission for online building permission system across all the cities in India by March 2022 to facilitate ease of doing business in the realty sector. The conference was organized by CII and JLL India which highlighted that the Government of India has already cleared 1.14 crore homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban (PMAY-U) to the set target ‘Housing For All’ in the country.

This decision will significantly boost the real estate sector to carry out business and generate employment. The government had previously set the target to achieve the goal by 2022. Housing Secretary also highlighted that in the World Bank’s ease of doing business report, India ranks at 27th position out of 190 nations, under the construction permit.

The online building permission system has been fully implemented in 19 States and Union Territories, and will be fully operational across all 36 States and Union Territories. Also, the works left in the remaining houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban will be completed in the next two years. Under the PMAY-U Scheme, the official stated that the Government of India has sanctioned 1.14 crore house and work have started only in 89 lakh homes. Although, the official said that 52 lakh homes have already been completed under the scheme.
