The Pradhan Mantri Awaz Yojana (PMAY-U) income threshold for the economically weaker section (EWS) in housing projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has been increased by the central government from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. As a result, more people will be eligible to avail affordable housing schemes by MHADA and CIDCO in the urban areas through PMAY lottery system. This rise in the income threshold aims to boost the EWS population’s access to and eligibility for affordable housing.
The central government offers a subsidy of Rs. 1.5 lakh per unit as part of the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) projects. Projects having a minimum of 250 homes, at least 35% of which must fall under the EWS category, are approved by the AHP vertical. A preliminary list of applicants for the next housing lottery for 4,082 houses in various areas of Mumbai has been made public by the Mhada Mumbai committee.
This wise decision by the central government is anticipated to have a big impact on the lives of those looking for affordable and accessible housing solutions in the busy Mumbai metropolitan area as the demand for affordable housing continues to rise.
